Greetings, Coffee Lover!
This being Michigan, we could fill the entire newsletter with a discussion of the weather. But the winter storms and crazy weather are behind us, and May was rather May-ish, and June seems to be “normal.” Memorial Weekend was spectacular, and although it rained some (no one can recall when it hasn’t been rainy or cold at least one of the days), the sunshine and warmth were a great kickoff to summer.
A Park Ranger told us that the Sleeping Bear Dunes visits in May were up 100% over May 2011. Surely this is a product of the Good Morning America publicity, and also the very nice weekend I told you about. Local businesses are reporting more visitors, and we saw a definite spike for Memorial Weekend. If you have dawdled on getting your reservations this summer, please stop reading and call your agent now. We’re told everything is just about sold out. Fantastic! We really appreciate all your support.
Last month I reported that Greg and Wanda Sobran were moving to Harbor Springs. In a stroke of good fortune, however, they were invited to display at MacBeth here in town, so they are staying put. Meanwhile, Haystacks has opened next door, and Brightly Twisted across the street, and of course Lake Affect up front…we’re loving all the neighbors!
The summer residents have returned, and the locals are once again flocking to the patio with their coffee and stories. Everyone is well, although not without a few bumps and bruises. Doug is recovering from his hip surgery, and Ron had his shoulder worked on. Paul has a cast on his hand having broken a bone, and Lois took a spill, landed on her face, got a couple stitches, and looked like a raccoon for a week. The upshot is that all are well and on the mend, and ready to entertain you when you’re here
The lakes have warmed up (somewhat), strollers are finding Petoskey Stones in Sleeping Bear Bay, cyclists are enjoying the new four-mile trail (dedication: 6/20, 1:30pm at the Dune Climb), and we’re all looking forward to this weekend’s M-22 Challenge Triathlon, and the Glen Lake BBQ & Brew Festival on Saturday the 16th (downtown Glen Arbor). We look forward to running into you at all these places, as well as on the patio. Cheers!
