The bad news: The skating rink planned for behind Leelanau Coffee Roasting has been moved. The reason? According to the Health Department the rink will kill the bacteria in the septic field. Really? When it’s covered in snow that doesn’t happen, but when the ice is there it does? And the bacteria won’t regenerate? C’mon! If you have any questions about how the Health Department operates (or understands hydrology), Tim Barr at Art’s Tavern will be happy to fill you in
The good news: We’ve relocated the rink to the basketball court, next to Northwoods Hardware. The Township was very amenable to it, and is reported to have said that if there is any bacteria growing on the court, they’d like to kill it. Here’s a photo from this morning.
With freezing temperatures returning Sunday night, we look forward to skating next week. Mine are sharpened and have new laces!
