September 2009 News

Greetings, Coffee Lover!

For me, September always arrives after Labor Day, so it still feels (time-wise) like August. Temperature-wise, it’s closer to October. The great news is that after nearly six inches of rain in August (along with some stunning sunny days) we have a whole week of sunshine now, and a great, warm, dry forecast for the weekend.

Labor Day will be different in Glen Arbor without the annual 0.3 mile Bridge Walk, but we’re all invited to drive around the Lakes to the south side of the Narrows for a celebration at Melba Ann’s at noon. Yes, there will be a commemorative t-shirt!

Geez, I’ve covered the weather and the bridge, this summer’s biggest topics. But there is lots of other news. Spartan Stores has a new “Michigan’s Best” program, featuring foods made in Michigan, and Leelanau Coffee Roasting is a part of that! Lakers Blend, Bakery Blend, Sumatra Dark, and Snickercookie can be found in 12-ounce pre-ground Leelanau bags. Why pre-ground? Because it outsells whole bean. So, check your local Spartan affiliate grocer for those offerings.

We’re also going to be rolling out some new 12- and 16-ounce packaging in the coming month, with an updated bag for mail order and our wholesale customers. I know you’ll like it! You’ll see it in Spartan Stores as well.

Cafe customers have been enthralled by the two original oil paintings by the late Bruce Unwin hanging there. For those who loved them but found them pricey, guess what? The seller has dropped the price. What a great time to buy! See the details here.

Steve & John’s mom was in for her annual pond inspection, and gave me an A- which I think is my highest grade ever. My mom hasn’t been up so it’s hard to say if I’d fare as well with her (but writing this, I know I’ll hear from her!).

Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend and September, and I look forward to seeing many of you these fall weekends.
