June 2009 News

Greetings, Coffee Lover!

It’s good I waited until today to write this missive, as we’ve finally broken 60 (it’s 65° as I type), and the long-range forecast shows 60 degree days for the next week.  Ahhh, could Spring be peaking?  Leaves are still fighting to emerge on a few trees, but the perennials are growing and flowering in the cafe garden and around town, and things are good.

Memorial Weekend was wonderful!  Tourists were up in droves, and all the businesses throughout the area had good to great weekend crowds.  We’re very excited that you all got in your cars and came Up North.  The news reporters keep predicting gloom and doom, but perhaps you all are more interested in having fun than listening to dire predictions.  The Glen Arbor Garden dedication drew around 300 people, and town was jammed at times.  The successive days and weekends have also seemed busy.  Yay!

I hope those of you who tried my recommendations enjoyed them.  While I haven’t received any hate mail, I haven’t heard anything back at all.  I guess that’s good.

The Rock With Barack coffee has continued to be a good seller, and we’d like to make it a permanent selection.  However, that novelty name will seem old soon (if it’s not already), so we need a new name.  And that means a contest.  The coffee is a blend of Indonesian, African, and Hawaiian coffees, all of them a Full City (our lightest) roast.  As you know, we’re partial to Leelanau County names, but are not sure what will catch our fancy.  The staff will help us whittle down the names, and Steve, John, and I will choose the winning entry.  Reply to this email before June 15th.  The winner will receive two pounds of their newly named coffee, shipped to them free in the USA.

The store is stocking up for summer, and we were able to get more of the Black Bistro Mugs (with the bright blue, lime, or tangerine inside), so order while we can get them.  They sold out quickly last summer, and we couldn’t re-order them.

While I’ve been writing this the temperature has climbed to 69.4° … I think I’ll eat my lunch on the patio.
