As the leaves come out on the trees, and the trillium are in bloom, that is the time we hunt for morel mushrooms. I had not been a very good hunter until Mark helped me out last spring, showing me what a good spot looks like, and how they appear. And suddenly, I could find them. Problem is, we can hunt, but we never know if
- a) they grow there at all
- b) they have emerged yet
- c) if someone has just picked over that spot
I liken hunting the morels to fishing, and I’ve never had luck at that (although I’d like to fly fish when I retire). In any event, every evening I hunt for the mushrooms, and I’m hoping soon to land some!
