Knowing your customer

This morning I fielded a few mail order phone calls, and loved the conversations. Two in particular stood out. First is that longtime customer Marilyn called. She doesn’t even need to use her last name! Those of us in the office know her sweet voice, and when I mentioned her call to SJ back in Production, she smiled, for she recognizes the name from all of her orders.

The second stand-out call was from John, a new customer, and he wanted to order Rock with Barack coffee, because his good friend John gave him some. John #1 was amazed that I knew John #2. Of course John #2 and I correspond from time to time, and he’s a frequent online customer, so I see his orders on the internet.

Tens of thousands of customers. Tens of thousands of orders. And yet we try to get to know each customer, and often do! I like this business :)

    John # 1 introduced me to Rock with Barack during a short vacation to Tucson last Thursday. It only got better when we had R with B a second time early one morning in the beautiful Sonoran Desert west Of Tucson. Back in Shelby Twp., MI this week, my wife, Maureen and I agree that the coffee is great, however, she was at home shoveling snow while John #1 and I enjoyed sunny AZ.

    John #2 made sure I read your blog entry. What a nice treat! I would be happy to send you a picture of both Johns when we were in Arizona last week but I do not know how to do it on the blog.

    Had Rock with Barack coffee this AM here in sunny AZ.
