Greetings, Coffee Lover!
Steve, John and I were all getting our vacations at the end of April and beginning of May, since things get busy with the approach of summer. One thing leads to another, and today you finally get your newsletter.
After a very normal winter, we have had a perfectly typical spring: wet and sometimes cold, and then some days in the 70s just to tease us. The cherry blossoms are at peak, leaves are spreading on our shoreline trees, and I found my first morel mushroom EVER. Our good friend Mark took me out and showed me how to hunt, and that worked well. I’ve still never caught a fish, but that’s an entirely different challenge. One of the great observations I’ve had is that the cranberry bog
just south of Glen Arbor is full of water, and I’ve not seen it like that for a long time. Could this indicate rising Great Lakes water levels? I hope so.
In the retail store we have a new manager, Randy. He comes to us with years of food and beverage background, and I know that you’ll really like him. We’ll have some of the staff back from last summer, but you’ll be seeing new faces since so many of the veterans are finishing college now. Time for a new crop. And in final Leelanau Coffee family news, Heidi will be wed this weekend, and then move out to Tacoma, Washington to her new husband’s army base.
Okay, here’s this month’s internet special: since the weather is peachy, order three or more pounds of any coffee, and we’ll send you a jar of our Peach Preserves! No need to make the request, we’ll do this automatically for you. And for those of you who didn’t take me up yet on the “try a lighter coffee challenge,” here’s your chance to stray from your usual course, and try a different coffee, just to change things up. My suggestions are Sidamo (African), Organic Guatemala (Central American) and Celebes (Indonesian). I hope you try one of them, and please share your feedback!
Well, back to the garden…I still need to scoop some leaves out of the pond, and that water is cold!
