August 2002 News

Greetings, Coffee Lover!

You’ve heard the phrase “Hotter than July?”  We cannot fathom what could be hotter than this past month.  It gave our slogan, “We’re Roasting Up Here” a whole new perspective.

Heat doesn’t affect coffee consumption, however, and we’ve seen many of our loyal customers in the shop this summer.  In fact, Glen Arbor has never been busier, but it’s a good kind of bustle, and everyone—locals and visitors alike—is enjoying their summer!

Behind the counter we have a great staff as always, led by Lisa,  Assisting her are Melissa Huron, Sara, Alice, Hadley, Joff, Jennifer, Carol, and Jack (and sometimes Linda, John, Sara Jane, Melissa Irving, and yours truly).  A few days ago Joff became fully initiated when a customer told him, “no, no, I want a REAL cappuccino, like at the Mobil station.”  Fortunately, Joff is a graduate student in communications, and thought of something delightful to say, while selling the customer an iced tea.

Around the shop the lawn has really taken hold, we have new gardens, we’re in the new offices, and we’ve installed a permanent horseshoe pit*.  With those projects accomplished, we’re scratching our heads and thinking of remodeling the retail shop.  We’ll keep you posted on that one.

The Fourth of July was wonderful and we had a great time in the parade.  As usual, I drove the MGB, but this year Steve sat in back playing snare drum, joined by Norm Wheeler on coronet, and they played all sorts of patriotic marches during our two mile trek from Glen Haven into town.  We even made the evening news!

August always makes me think of pie.  Peach pie, cherry pie, strawberry pie, blueberry pie…you get the idea.  And what could be better for dessert than pie ala mode and a nice cup of Leelanau Coffee?  Nothing.  So, check your cupboard, and if you’re low on coffee, or planning a little dessert party, give us a call or logon to the website, and we’ll ship you some fresh beans.  Remember, we ARE roasting up here, almost every day of the week!

*The horseshoe pit is outdoors, not in the office.
