That’s not exactly a declaration of the current weather, but rather a plea. Our visitors this week have been treated to a few dreary days and cooler temperatures. I must say that’s great for business, but so-so for a vacation. Rain is always a good thing, and the sunshine we did have was quite welcome. Fortunately, this weather blows out today and we see sun and 70s in the coming week’s forecast.
Weather will be grand for the Fourth of July, but I can’t make promises about mosquitos…after all, it has been raining
Last night I was feeding the fish in my pond and there was this big crash on the other side of the hedge. I went around, and there was a young buck, just munching on some bracken. I think he may have been attempting to get some water, but I scared him. He just stood there, fearless. So, I went into the house, got my camera, came back, and took his picture. Then went around to the neighbors for another angle, and he just stood there and posed. Eventually he came toward me, and then just sprinted away.
The wildlife is alive and well in Glen Arbor!
We are DEFINITELY ROASTING up here! It is 94°.
Saturday was the innaugural running of the M-22 Challenge, put on by the M-22 lifestyle guys. It was a triathalon with a few twists. First was a bike ride around both Glen Lakes. Then a run up and around the Sleeping Bear Dune. Finally, a kayaking race in Little Glen Lake.
Some were determined athletes. Others, like this guy, were in it more for the fun (I think gears are advisable on some of the hills around here).
Walking the dog last evening, Moose rustled up this fledgling, escaped from his nest. He could fly in short bursts above the grass but kept moving toward the traffic on busy M-109. I decided to place him on a branch away from the road, and hope that momma gets him back to the nest.

We were wondering when Summer would arrive, and I think I can fairly reliably say it is here now (subject to later revocation). While this has been a cooler Spring, the National Weather Service says that it is much more normal, and that the last decade of springs have been warmer (actually starting in May of 1998, when we had many days in the 70s and 80s).
This week we’ll have days in the 70s and nights in the 50s…great weather!
I don’t have any frogs living in the cafe pond yet, but here is one who is taking care of the flies in my pond at home.

I just took a tour of the garden with a cup of Sidamo, and both are great! The dew on the plants in the sunshine looks amazing, and yet I see many projects that need my attention.
When is it going to warm up into the 60s consistently? When are all the leaves going to push out fully on the trees? Possibly at the same time.
The gardening was completed just in the nick of time. I’ve picked up more mulch to spread around when the rain stops.
Glen Arbor was very busy this weekend, and although the temperature were a tad cool (it is May, after all), the sunshine made it splendid. The Glen Arbor Garden dedication was well attended, and many folks have wandered though it. I even saw a family having a picnic at the picnic tables…perfect!
Leelanau Coffee Roasting was also busy, but with almost the entire crew back again this summer, it went very smoothly. Someone should have reminded the IT guy to turn the Wi-Fi on for later hours (he’s forgetful in his old age). If that’s the biggest hiccup, I’d say we’re doing fine.
Already, a number of weekend visitors are up…apparently they are working on a four-day weekend.
I’m making good progress on the grounds, and hope to see frogs in the pond soon!
I’m enjoying a mug of Sumatra right now, and looking over the patio. Between driving and the weather, it’s been tough to get the garden ready, but I’m hopeful that today and tomorrow I can make some progress. Guess it didn’t help that Spring came later this year, and Memorial Day is a week earlier. Let’s see, how many more excuses can I invent? Oh, wait, I like to work in the garden, so wouldn’t put it off unless I had to
In any event, the perennials are coming up nicely, although there are a lot of dandelions among my ornamental grasses. Looks like I’ll be digging.
